Bahrain joins the Club bringing new social media spark

FROM OUR EMAIL ARCHIVE: 18 AUG 2018
Yet another nationality was added today to our ever-growing football franchise, when Saud from Bahrain, on holiday in London, asked to join our match.
Young, fit and clearly experienced (he plays in a club in his country), he joined the Unbibbed team composed by Enrique, Francesco, Thomas and Philipp. This gave the Unbibs a one-man advantage over the Bibs, but that was not enough, as on the other side was a team whose lineup included no less than Hannes, Tony, Daniel and Hadrien.
In fact, the Bibs got the lead immediately (courtesy of Francesco who scored a spectacular own goal) and never looked back, winning both at normal time (6-5) and at golden goal.
We have seen this before: the team with the extra man lacks ideas and stamina, indulges in harmless tiki-taka, and eventually loses the ball. The other team plays no-nonsense football, runs more and scores more. But credits go the Bibs for an impressive performance: solid in defence and ruthless in attack.
The Man of the Match award went once again to Daniel. “I am now considering renting a second flat only to host all my football trophies” said Daniel after the match, before announcing he will be away for a few weeks on international duties.
After the match, we asked Saud if he wanted to stay in touch via email and he looked at us like dinosaurs from the Stone Age. Email, really? Please. Instagram or Snapchat anyone? It turns out few of us actually do have an Instagram account, so we exchanged links and Saud promised to include our picture (below) in one of his Instagram London “stories”.
Speaking of Instagram, you might not know that our own Johannes Wittig (currently on loan in Australia for a year) is a true star of the social media and a very talented photographer. His account (@johanneswittig) boosts already 14.7K followers, an amazing achievement considering: a) he never revealed to his fans to be part of the Football Dads team and 2) he never posted photos of our matches. His photo are truly amazing, check them out, and if you don’t have an Instagram account perhaps it’s time to consider opening one.
As far as Snapchat is concerned, that’s probably a no-go for anyone above 21 years of age. I still have to figure out exactly how it works…
