Ben scores four under a sad December sun

With organised sports these Covid days you cannot have more than 2,000 people in attendance. The Club was at pain in deciding who prioritise among the countless fans base. In fact it didn’t and they were chosen at random. This sense of election along with the usual Saturday treat made the crowd today even more generous in his support to the fighting gladiators whose armoury was shining under this unlikely December sun.
This mood spilled over the pitch where both sides showed right from the start that any rust from the lockdown had been shaken off in anticipation of today’s clash where maximum efficiency was required to stand a chance to prevail or even survive. Such concept was particularly clear to the Bibbed who were assembled by Hannes who made the most of his picking skills.
It did look like a balanced game at the start: if any it was the Unbibbed profligacy in front of goal that impeded them from taking an early lead. But as soon as the dust settled it was the Bibbed who took command of the operations imposing a tempo that the Unbibbed could not simply sustain. The first post lockdown-2 goal came courtesy of a powerful shot by Ben. Adam and Andrea scored a brace each with Ben doing even better with a glorious hat trick complemented by two more by Yassin. The score would have assumed even greater proportions was it not for Paride reiterated saves.
A 0-8 the Unbibbed had to do something: conveniently they poached Ben for an undisclosed sum from the opponents and from then on the tide turned. Francesco scored a glorious brace, Ben brought his daily tally to four and Thomas sealed the comeback with a golden goal shot that, while lacking power, possessed a deadly spin that confounded the Bibbed defence and the very goalkeeper. Not even a spin doctor like Nadal could have conceived anything like that.sa
Among the Kids Andrea distinguished himself especially with powerful and precise shots from the distance but it was Ben who came out with a handful: he took home the hat trick ball and the Man of the Match award. In the new virtual world the Club prides itself to have been handing over virtual awards well ahead of time.
It should have been a joy to be back at football, but all the pleasure of the game and the tepid warmth of the December sun, couldn’t do much to melt the ice that was on every player’s heart since they heard about the sudden death of 27-year old Niccolò Torrigiani, son of Filippo and older brother of Federico.
Prior to the match, all players stood in the middle of the pitch for a minute of silence, in memory of Niccolò.
