JP brings latino flavour to the pitch but the match is no Mexican standoff
Hannes/Johannes father-son partnership was in great shape as their Bibs team obliterated an inventive but ineffective Colours team.
The two Germans, initially partnering with Francesco and Dan, had in front a squad with massive potential: seasoned player AndreaM was paired with three youngsters: Marco and Diego, proud products of our award-winning academy, and rookie JP (short for Juan Pablo), in his debut.
Despite having left Yucatan sunny beaches for the less tolerant British weather, JP didn’t show any sign of melancholia. In fact, he was joyful and full of energy. But on the unforgiving Palace pitch, he had to learn the hard way that ‘power is nothing without control’ (if you remember the memorable Pirelli ad with Olympic champion Carl Lewis running the track wearing shoes with heels).
JP’s fast exchanges with Diego and Marco meant the game was played at formidable speed. However, such exuberance was not always paired with precision, with balls being lost mid play and shots going generally slightly wide. Blame the bouncy pitch if you want.
Diego had the most attempts and eventually managed to bag a few. Marco and Francesco (who in meantime had switched side, after Ishan joined) scored a couple of others. But those were drops in the ocean of the Bibs’ goal.
Playing with teutonic efficiency, the Bibs scored 17 times in total, more than double their opponents, sealing an undisputed victory.
The Man of the Match Award was unanimously given to Hannes. Not only he had an excellent performance in goal, but he was instrumental up front, scoring an improbable hat-trick.
In the after match he proudly showed his wounds from the previous match, opened again and spilling blood. What is the point of covering them with band-aids, he said, if they are going to open again.
Fair enough. After all, coagulation is over rated.
