MG9: bring it on! Two weeks to go!

With this unreal weather if you were to put a bit of sand around the pond it would feel like being in the Caribbean: undisturbed sun, terse sky and not a single cloud in sight.
Everyone was enjoying the atmosphere but the 22 players who immediately felt the weight of responsibility and history upon them as soon as the date (Saturday June 17th at 12pm) of the MASTER GAME 9 was officially announced. And from now on two weeks of sleepless night, Wags’ beating and weird rituals in a crescendo of tension typical of those athletes whose life can become hell or paradise in just 90’.
There is the eternal debate whether this time should be spent by obsessively training 24/7 or just pausing to get fresh to the game. Each player is his own Master. There are not guidelines from trim the CLUB as you can’t teach the Masters!
For example during the game TT, that is our Tony Terminator, who has hardly turned up during the season, confidently scored a hat trick without breaking a sweat. This despite wearing his customary multi-layered attire. His average distance covered was 0.2km and that includes the runs to the stands to milk the standing ovation by the fans. He knows, we know that the smell for goal is not something you can train: being there just where the ball is going to be is an asset very few had the privilege to share: Gerd Muller, Paolo Rossi, Filippo Inzaghi and Tony Terminator.
Yassin was back after sometime and from the first touch it was clear it was business as usual: twists, turns, dribbles, spurs, passes, shots all performed at the speed of light. It might well be that few other players can do what he does but no one does it at its pace. It didn’t take long for him to send the match his direction with an early brace.
From there on it was an uphill struggle for the Colours to catch up as the Orange defence was rock solid, their midfield packed with quality and stamina and their attack ready to inflict pain at every turn.
Victor and Arkady played like veterans on the flank intercepting critical balls and starting the counter attack. On the opposite front the young guns Marco and Diego perhaps indulged too much in their skills and lacked the finishing touch. However it was Diego, followed by Johaness to give hope to the Colours for a remuntada. But today it was Tony with his hat trick and Yassin with his brace, complemented by Daoud header to dictate the score: 6-2 for the Orange.
The golden goal performed by Arsalan with a tricky shot from the distance was a fair reminder that perhaps the gap today was not as big as the score suggested.
Tony took home both the ball and the Man of the Match award as he proved that leaving him alone in front of goal even for a split second is a sin every defender will pay for instantly.
The post match atmosphere was somewhat different: there was indeed the usual camaraderie and few banters were exchanged but you could tell from each player body language that his own mate was seen in a different, contrasting light: both as someone that could help him to achieve the ultimate glory of winning the MG9 but also someone to compete with for a place in the starting XI of the biggest game of the season.
