The sound of silence
It is widely accepted that there is no more powerful drug than a victory at the Master Game. Today’s match turned out to be the ultimate evidence of that. In fact the winners, that is the Kids, of the clash of Titans, that is MG6, showed a superb form to prove their addiction to glory is just there to stay. Dads knew they were in for a tough one after the unjust defeat last Sunday.
The situation was made worse by Diego’s injury soon after the start: that meant that during the game he was a distant version of the Man of the Match we saw just a week ago. Luckily for him his commercial value has skyrocketed and there is not a single company who would not advertise his products with him. Question is rather whether they can afford him or not.
Dads were also missing irreplaceable strikers like Tony S. and Francesco. Giancarlo tried to deputise for Tony S. upfront and at the end of the game fully understood why fans chanted ‘there is only one Tony S,’.
The list of injured went on with legendary defenders like Hossam, Hannes and Thomas. In midfield also the absence of Yassim was like if Ajax played without Cruyff or Barcelona without Messi.
The CLUB is now unofficially asking itself if the team of doctors and physiotherapists are up to the task of looking after its champions in a critical moment.
Still there were moment of sheer stoicism like when Massimo was hit hard in his privates but kept fighting on every ball like it was the last regardless the score.
Kids had the energy of teenagers and a growing maturity absorbed by playing next or against their Dads. They were flying on the wings of enthusiasm after claiming the scalps of the senior players
and were in, no doubt, for a replica of the show. They today showed since the first minute they had a plan: they played tiki taka in defence and midfield and then all of a sudden the likes of Giuseppe, Khaled, Sara and Marco would receive from Johannes or Julian a penetrating pass to create havoc in the Dads defence. Tony L stood tall in face of the mounting tide like Leonida at Thermopylae but kids were overflowing like the water that hits the plain cascading from the rocks. Julian opened the locks by scoring the opener, followed suit by Khaled, then Giuseppe and Marco with a brace apiece and Johannes with three more taking the ball home. A contender for the goal of the season was also scored: Marco combined with Johannes with a faster than the speed of light one-two which the Italian finalised with a mid-air volley with the outside of his right foot into the opposite top corner, in every bit reminiscent of that Di Canio goal (here link) https://youtu.be/bwL-QDZg2BY
Johannes was back claiming the coveted Man of the Match after scoring a hat trick of which the last one was the golden goal unusually with his right foot and despite playing in fairly defensive position.
Is this a turning point in FDs history? That is the question. Dads need to dig deep and find the strength to come back. This is a bunch of players that likes nothing more than defying the odds when everything is against them. They have been there before and always turned the tide to gain the admiration of their critics and opponents.
Fans were silent under the burden of such result, hardly recognising half of the team that just six days ago thrilled them for 90 minutes: silent they were but faithful they stayed as they were handsomely rewarded many times for doing so in the past.
