Awards
In addition to the weekly MOTM (Man Of The Match) Award, once a year a number of special awards are assigned to exceptional players that have distinguished themselves throughout the season.
The two traditional prizes are the “Player of the Year” and “Goal of the Year”, but occasionally other awards are given.
Below is a snapshot of the awards given in 2018-19. We trust that Giancarlo, now that he has a lot of free time, will take the time to edit this page to include also the other years.
2018-19 - Player of the year - > MASSIMO
Massimo was always a contender but only this season he turned up regularly and played with such consistency and predictability that only Swiss clocks come close to. Also is elegance stands out: his new blue kit would not look the same on any other player
While is true that most defenders would excel in any FDs defensive line, Massimo left a mark in the FDs team that only partially a Van Dych did for Liverpool so that the multiple the Club paid for him v the Dutch is fully justified.
Soon after accepting the award (see pic) Massimo declared: “I thought that my decision to turn down Juventus could have backfired. In fact ending up with FDs and playing alongside Hossam and Hannes rather than Cannavaro and Chiellini fully vindicates it. I must thank FDs strikers for testing me to the limit and turning me into the player I’m today (not to mention tomorrow)”.
“I must confess that at times it has been intense and stressful” he continued “but luckily my family is now getting used to me waking up in the middle of the night screaming: ‘Mark Daniel! Stop Giancarlo! Tackle Tony!’. I look forward to many more clean sheets especially after the arrival of new exceptional defenders who can help carrying the legacy.”
2018-19 - Goal of the year - > FRANCESCO
In a rainy day on a muddy pitch Gregorio sent a bullet shot on the edge of the box. Francesco realised that to meet the far and high ball he had to do something against the law of physics and gravity by producing an upward dive to send the ball with a sublime header above the dumbfounded keeper.
Francesco was overjoyed even if his mates wild hugging left him with a bruised rib. The only unhappy person was Robin Van Persie who saw his wonder (downward) diving header goal against Spain downgraded to the junior version of Francesco’s one
Soon after accepting the award (see pic) Francesco declared: ‘When Cristiano Ronaldo called me to say that, despite watching my goal over and over again, he had not mastered yet the art of upward diving scoring headers, I realised I did something unreal as well as that CR7 desire to become a FD is turning into an obsession.”
“I would like to sincerely thank my fellow FDs for providing with so many assists of which you hit some and miss some in the relentless search for the impossible goal. I commit to delight the fans with few more of those in the next few decades’
